Thursday: Is Inequality Fair?

Of course it is. But do you kow why? Thoroughly? Does the suggestion that your taxed, regulated and barely-above-average position in life is somehow unfair on other people make your blood boil? Is your desire to improve your lot unfair too? Can you defend this in terms of some technical economic theory, or do you…

Thursday Speaker: Richard Carey

I have known Richard Carey for, probably, about 5 years but realised as I sat down that I don’t know that much about him.  It is occasionally the case that libertarians have so much to say about history, philosophy and politics that they neglect to let people into their own selves, or perhaps we are…

Thursday Speaker: Rob Waller

Rob describes himself as the founder of StatusPeople.com and creator of the Fakers App which assesses Twitter Follower Quality. He is also, of course, a regular at the Rose and Crown and, as an active Libertarian, the founder of the monthly meetup there. Rob’s Faker’s App tells you how many of your Twitter followers are…

Thursday Speaker: Sam Bowman

A lot of people will recognise the name Sam Bowman from his work at the ASI. He blogs there regularly, is popular on Twitter and makes the occasional media appearance. He has written on gay marriage for the Guardian, the living wage for Conservative Home and many times for City AM. A lot of you …

Gagging law protest

38 Degrees are organising a protest against the gagging law for lunchtime (12-2pm) on Tuesday 8th October. Given this is a lunchtime deal, I think I could well be going. The gagging law could stop any kind of group, including this users of this website and the meetup attendees, from speaking out at election time.

Thursday Speaker : Anton Howes

Anton Howes will be speaking this Thursday at the Rose and Crown. Most of us know him as director of the Liberty League, but he will be speaking on his PhD topic: the causes of the industrial revolution. I was lucky enough to hear Anton speak on this topic before, and with a longer time…

Thursday Speaker : Jan Iwanik

Dr Jan Iwanik is one of the “new regulars” at the Rose and Crown meetup and is a personable and well mannered guy. Like most people that come, he rarely speaks about his profession. There is an understanding, at our regular gathering, that arguments stand and fall on their merits not on the authority of…
