Too many young people have wholly inappropriate role models*. But that’s because much of our media is obsessed by celebrities, manufactured singers & bands, shaggy footballers and their conquests, reality TV exhibitionists etc.
But which came first – the media pushing this dross out, or the public demanding it? Perhaps political became so bland and samey that they had to do something to fill their pages
Of course. the world would be a much better place if everyone was as intelligent and refined as you and I dear reader – but that ain’t the way it is. Unless libertarians can find ways to connect with the masses, and particularly the mass of the young, we shall remain merely a little special-interest group. Maybe Endemol needs to make I’m a Libertarian, Get Me Out of Here.
* I realise that the first sentence makes me sound like my dad. So I’m officially old now. Pass the slippers. 😦

Well she appears to be somewhat shrewd and successful; I can think of worse role models. There’s more to being a pop star than just singing. Lady Gaga is nearer the Dolly Parton end of the scale along with Kylie and Madonna than, say, the Elvis end of the scale.

I have some ideas, such as stealing some of the rhetoric of the left by talking about how we are very nice people who are against violence — but they’re not fully formed.

One point in her favour – she doesn’t make her money by using cronyism to get a share of forcibly-taken taxes. She actually has to please her fans.
