Shutdown goes ahead for US Federal Government

The US government is officially closed, as the budget office orders an orderly shutdown.

20131001-062258.jpgThe whining, in some cases taxpayer funded, has begun immediately:

One of the first casualties of the shutdown was the twitter account for the US Capitol.

“Due to a lapse in government funding, this account will not be active until further notice,” it posted.

Earlier it had warned that the Capitol’s visitors’ centre would be closed if the shutdown went ahead, and all tours would be suspended.

Shortly after midnight, President Obama tweeted: “They actually did it. A group of Republicans in the House just forced a government shutdown over Obamacare instead of passing a real budget.”

Lordy. The visitors center. I see the BBC are really trying hard to get with the Democratic narrative.

Meanwhile, reports from New York indicate the world has not, in fact, ended although Beckenham is feeling a little warmer than usual for the time of year.

  1. The American media and the international media (including the Murdoch owned Times of London), are pushing the “Progressive” line that any effort to repeal a tax (in this case the medical devices tax) or even delay a government spending scheme, is totally unacceptable – “partisan politics beyond the conventions of constitutional democracy” (the House is elected and is supposed, under the Constitution, to decide how much the government spends each year – but the media, like the education system, do not care about such things),

And it will be the same over the debt limit fight – borrowing money is not really borrowing money you see, it is “an essential mechanism of fiscal management” (from the same Times editorial yesterday).

Living in this world is like living in a Madhouse – I do not envy the young (I will be out of here long before you will).
