Armed citizens can fill inevitable gap in public security

The police response to the attack on Borough Market was amazingly fast, but lives would have been lost had defiant citizens not confronted knife-wielding murderers with bare fists, pint glasses and bicycle baskets.

The 8 minute delay is an inevitable gap in public security. We were, therefore, delighted to read that Alison Hernandez, PPC for Devon and Cornwall, takes seriously the idea that armed civilian volunteers might be permitted to fill it – given suitable training and oversight.

Though perhaps flawed, we prefer this policy to further disastrous regulation of the internet and the abandonment of our human rights.
