The attackers were not freakish, the opinions of the majorty are clear from the election result – they are the same Islamist opinions as the attackers. People who demand democracy in the Middle East should remember that democracy is the rule of the MAJORITY – not of a nice minority that one knows.

Thankfully Laura Logan survived – in large part thanks to decent Egyptions who were also in that area. But I would strongly advice people not to visit Egypt – or other places where the “Arab Spring” is powerful.

The true victims now are the decent people in Egypt – both Copts and moderate Muslims. They have a terrible future and there is nothing we can do about it.

  What concerns me is how there was so little media coverage of these events that I didn’t find out about it until you mentioned it as an aside to a criticism of George Monbiot.
  
  Given that is happened to a news anchor, a member of a community of a few hundred in the west, this should have been embedded in the minds of workers in the newsrooms. There is a story there.

    Agreed – but it did not fit the agenda of the “mainstream” media (i.e. that the Arab Spring was lovely).
    
    The rapes and other crimes of the “Occupy” movement in the United States also do not fit this agenda – so they get little coverage either.
    
    Nor is this changing much – only last week Time magazine (the centre of the “mainstream”) had “The Protestor” (meaning both the Arab Spring Islamists, for the drawing on the front cover was of a masked man and liberal minded “Arab Spring” people [and there were some] did not tend to dress like that, and the “Occupy” moverment in the West) as its “Person of the Year” – and the article was positive, all the facts that have been uncovered were not important to the msm only their agenda is important to them.
    
    For example, 2011 started with the shooting of a Democratic Congresswomen (and the murder of six other people including a conservative Judge) – the msm denounced the shooter as an evil “right wing” Tea Party person, a follower of Sarah Palin and a watcher of Glenn Beck.
    
    IT WAS ALL LIES – the shooter turned out to be a Marxist (if his collectivist ravings can even dignified with the term “Marxism”) a drug absuing lunatic. But the lies just carried on – for example the New York Times reported he was anti abortion (when he was pro abortion) and on and on.
    
    “It was not lies Paul – the msm were just confused….”.
    
    Then how does one explain what happened at the END of 2011.
    
    D. Sawyer of ABC news (supposdely the least leftist of the three traditional networks) interviewed G. Gifford (the member of the House of Representatives who had been shot in the head at the start of 2011), but what was the lead in to the interview.
    
    More stuff about the “climate of hate”, the “Tea Party” and on and on.
    
    A year on and the msm were still “confused”?
    
    No chance.
    
    The mainstream media are a leftist lie machine.
    
    And that includes the entertainment media. The television shows and Hollywood movies are almost all “liberal” collectivism.
