Inflation – Origins and Consequences – Feb 2nd

I am very pleased to announce that this month we will welcome Dr Tim Evans at our monthly drinks event, to give a talk on the topic “Inflation: it’s Origins and Consequences”, a theme which ties in nicely to our agreed strategy in 2012.

CobdenDr Evans is the chief executive of the Cobden Centre, which is reputed to have influenced Douglas Carswell and Steve Baker to  bring their Bills to introduce 100% reserve storage accounts into the British banking system, and to make foreign currencies legal tender. They are then a Centre for the best of Britain’s troublemakers on the topic of honest money and the Centre’s work has earned them an impressive reputation.

Tim Evans is also Consultant Director of the Adam Smith Institute, an organisation which modestly describes itself as Britain’s leading libertarian think-tank and the organisation which, after the Rose and Crown, has contributed more hangovers to  Libertarian Home authors than any other single group of people.

Dr Evans received his PhD in sociology from the LSE and an MBA from the Open University.  He is the former head of the Slovak Prime Minister’s Policy Unit and in the 1990s was the head of public affairs for the UK’s independent health and social care sector.  He is married to Dr Helen Evans of Nurses for Reform.

The meet up will start as usual at 6:30pm on the evening of Thursday 2nd February at the Rose and Crown, Colombo Street.  The function room is booked from 9pm and the talk will begin upstairs shortly thereafter.

The Rose and Crown will be, as it is usually, a busy pub and our group is sometimes lost among the crowd. Look out for the Libertarian Home logo on a table, or ask at the bar. This evening will be run by Rob Waller and Andy Janes who are well known to the proprietors. The function room is accessed using the stars behind the bar.

The evening will finish when the pub closes.

The twitter hashtag is #libhome and please follow @LibertarianHome.

  2. Hope the day goes well. Give my regards to Tim – I have met him but I doubt he remembers me!

I think introducing reserve storage accounts is good, but also I am in favour of people being told that when they deposit as of today (i.e. not the reserve storage accounts), they are lending with all the risks associated with it.

Still, have a good night, snow permitting. Seems odd talking of snow when I have the A/C on and it is 28DegC outside!
