Be careful if you are thinking of attending – there is a good chance you’ll bump into Owen Jones (or worse George Galloway) – but I notice a weird event taking place this month in sunny Wales. HowTheLightGetsIn, a Philosphy and Music festival running concurently with the Hay Festival (and also in Hay) is a confusing proposition: a concurrent festival with a programme of events clearly intended to rivalally the original. It’s like some kind of profressive take over bid of the Telegraph sponsored main Hay Festival.

If you take a look at the the Politics and Economics programme then you’ll see there are a good number of events that could do with a libertarian or two in the audience asking a few ballistic questions.

It sounds to me like “Signals in the World Economy” could use a Hayekian grenadier (figuratively, not literally, please!), and “Beyond Left and Right” needs someone like Yaron Brook. Actually, if we’re going to play fantasy football with philosophers, then lets send Stephen Davies to that one and save Yaron for this one: “The Eye of the Needle” where “freemarket proponent” (and classical liberal) Jamie Whyte seems to have been the lumbered with the task of defending tax avoidance. The Biblical title suggests he is up against none other than Jesus himself. Time to call for back up Jamie!
